Did you know that you can place holds on items that aren’t even here at the library yet? Yes, you can! Even though books, audio books, CDs, or DVDs aren’t physically in the building, as long as they are in the database and show up as “on order” you can place holds on them. And if you are lucky, you may be one of the first to get to read, listen to, or watch them.
Yesterday, when I came in to work, I found a stack of brand new fiction releases sitting on my desk waiting to be cataloged and processed so that the folks who had placed holds on them could check them out.
Some new mysteries have come in, and in “14th Deadly Sin”, the most recent book in the “Women’s Murder Club” series by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, Detective Lindsay Boxer is on the case of a brutal murder in San Francisco.
One of my favorites is Craig Johnson’s “Walt Longmire” series. The latest book is “Dry Bones” and involves a complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton being found in the Sheriff’s county. The owner of the property, where the skeleton has been found, is murdered and a jurisdictional fight over the skeleton by the local tribe, federal government, and land owner’s family ensues. It’s up to Walt to solve the crime and bring peace back to Absaroka County.
“Gathering Prey” by John Sandford is the25th book in the Prey series. Lucas Davenport’s adopted daughter, Letty, meets a “Traveler” in San Francisco and when the woman calls and asks for help, she decides to help her. Lucas doesn’t think it’s a very good idea but goes along for the ride and after hearing the woman’s story, begins to investigate her claims.
In “A God in Ruins: a novel” by Kate Atkinson, Ursula Todd’s younger brother, Teddy didn’t expect to come back from the war alive. But he has, and through the years he sees many changes. This book switches back and forth through time and is a companion novel to “Life After Life”, also by Kate Atkinson.
For alternate history/science fiction fans we have the latest “Destroyermen” novel. “Straits of Hell” by Taylor Anderson takes place during World War II where the destroyer USS Walker, during a storm, is swept into an alternate version of Earth and are now in a different kind of battle for their lives.
“The Green Road” by Anne Enright is a story of the Madigan family from Ireland who has drifted apart. The mother, Rosaleen, has decided to sell the family home and split up the proceeds amongst her four children. The four come home for one final Christmas and while at home they hope to recover their family relationships.
So many more new items are hitting the shelves almost daily. Come in and browse or take a look in our online catalog. Be sure to get on the waiting list for the latest and greatest items at the library!
